Upper Mesa Falls

Every time we go to Island Park we take a quick jaunt over to Mesa Falls. It's between Ashton and Island Park. It's amazing how beautiful these falls are!!! Seeing them once just isn't enough, we love going back each year and visiting them. The kids also love that there is a ranger station (or something like it) there that has skins from all sorts of animals that they can touch and look at. This year Kaden's favorite was looking at the wolf skin. Saige liked the bear footprints and Aspynn loved the fish (they are alive in an aquarium for the kids to look at). Anyhow...it is a lot of fun for the WHOLE family and that is probably the best part of the whole thing.

By the way...Lower Mesa Falls is about a 65 foot drop down the Henry's Fork of the Snake River

Upper Mesa Falls is 300 feet wide and a 114 foot drop. It is an amazing view!!!!

If you are interested in viewing the falls for yourself (I know my Mom,my Aunt, and Grandparents are because they are all headed up this way this weekend) here are the directions: From Ashton, drive north on Hwy 47 for about 15 miles to the signed turnoff for Upper Mesa Falls (0.7 miles past Lower Mesa Falls). From West Yellowstone, drive south for 35 miles on Hwy 20 to Hwy 47 (signed for Mesa Falls). Drive about 13 miles on Hwy 47 to the signed turnoff for Upper Mesa Falls. I believe the fee at Upper Mesa is $3 or $5. There is no fee at Lower Mesa.
