Quake Lake (also known as Earthquake Lake) is a lake in southwestern Montana. It was created after a massive earthquake (measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale) that struck on August 17, 1959, which killed 28 people. The earthquake caused an 80 million ton landslide which formed a landslide dam on the Madison River.
August 4 we headed over to Quake Lake. We haven't been here in several years so it was nice to come back with the kids and show them this beautiful area that caused so much devastation. It was neat to teach them about Quake Lake and read to them the stories of some of the people who died during the quake. They found it all very interesting. We were worried they wouldn't want to go camping that night, but they were fine with it!!!
Saige wishing I would give her money to look through the telescope
If you look behind Saige you can see where the landslide was
Kaden wanted his pic taken too!!
